The CPU itself is often just a small fraction of the area, just a couple percent in the case of the Baochip-1x. Who does the tickling doesn’t matter – whether ARM or RISC-V CPU, or even a state machine – the peripherals respond just the same. Thus, one can effectively give the same “body” two different “personalities” by switching out their “brains”; by switching out their CPU cores, you can have the same physical piece of silicon run vastly different code bases.
