Crossbar wanted to buck the trend and heed the call for open source transparency in security chips and approached me to help advise on strategy. I agreed to help them, but under one condition: that I would be allowed to add a CPU core of my own choice and sell a version of the chip under my own brand. Part of the reason was that Crossbar, for risk reduction reasons, wanted to go with a proprietary ARM CPU.
